FY25 H STREET MAIN STREET LGBTQ BUSINESS SUPPORT GRANT 

Funding Opportunity for LGBTQ Nightlife and Retail Establishments in Ward 6

H Street Main Street (HSMS) is pleased to announce a new grant opportunity for LGBTQ-owned or LGBTQ-serving nightlife and retail businesses located within our service area. This initiative is funded by the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD) through an appropriation from the DC Council and the Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ Affairs.

About the Program

In FY25, HSMS received additional funding to help preserve and support LGBTQ nightlife and retail establishments in Ward 6. Businesses may apply for funding of up to $2,000, with consideration for higher amounts based on project scope and impact.

This competitive subgrant is designed to:

  • Support LGBTQ cultural and nightlife programming

  • Enhance business visibility and community engagement

  • Provide operational, marketing, or event support tied to LGBTQ-focused efforts

Eligible Activities

Funding may be used for projects such as:

  • Hosting LGBTQ events (e.g., Pride Month activations, art shows, drag performances)

  • Launching inclusive retail promotions or product lines

  • Marketing campaigns that highlight LGBTQ inclusion

  • Operational support for LGBTQ-specific programming

  • Collaborations with LGBTQ artists, musicians, or vendors

  • Safety, accessibility, or ambiance upgrades to support inclusive nightlife

Note: Final eligibility and programmatic criteria will align with guidelines issued in an official program addendum. Awards must be used in accordance with DSLBD’s approved cost categories.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a brick-and-mortar business located within the H Street Main Street service area (Ward 6)

  • Identify as LGBTQ-owned or demonstrate programming/services that benefit the LGBTQ community

  • Be in good standing with the District of Columbia and possess an active DC business license

Funding Details

  • Typical grant awards: $500–$2,000

  • Requests for larger amounts may be considered based on project impact, scalability, and alignment with program goals

  • Funds will be disbursed upon execution of a simple grant agreement and submission of proposed activity plan
