Clifton is an H Street entrepreneur and also a longtime DC firefighter, holding the rank of lieutenant in the DC Fire & Emergency Management Service. He grew up in the family home at 3rd and H Streets, and never lost his attachment to H Street life. He is respected as one of the early pioneers of H Street’s entertainment district rebirth. Clifton and his wife Nyika founded and managed the H Street Martini Lounge at 1236 H Street in 2005, at a time when few were willing to invest in the area. It soon became a popular and sophisticated entertainment venue. The couple also founded and managed the Dulce Cafe & Lounge, at 1123 Pennsylvania Avenue SE, on Capitol Hill.  After several years, they sold these businesses and are now working on other ventures.
