Washington, DC—On Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, H Street Main Street will join small businesses on H Street NE and across the District to celebrate Small Business Saturday. Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to strengthening the community by supporting local small employers, and the H Street Corridor is ripe with unique and vibrant small businesses.

“Despite being the backbone of our local and national economies, small businesses face many obstacles that keep them from growing like a lack of access to credit and uneven consumer demand,” said Anwar Saleem, Executive Director of H Street Main Street. “Holiday sales are vital to small businesses. So, when you support local businesses on Small Business Saturday, you are supporting the development and success of our community as a whole.”

Now in its fourth year, Small Business Saturday serves as the ceremonial kickoff to the holiday shopping season for small businesses across the United States. Small Business Saturday supporters reported spending over $5.5 billion at independently-owned businesses on Small Business Saturday last year, and it’s hoped that this year will be even better.

“Entrepreneurs need all the support they can get in this difficult economic climate to help them grow their businesses, create jobs and strengthen our economy,” said Saleem. “We encourage all Washingtonians to show their support for our small businesses by visiting H Street Corridor on Saturday to shop small.”
