Atlas Hosts H Street Grant Event

The Atlas Theater recently hosted an event to award the H Street NE Retail Priority Grant (Click for details).  Stan’s Inc, Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill, H Street Care and Wellness Center, and the C.A.T. Walk Boutique, were all awarded with grants to help grow their small businesses.

It’s just another example of how H Street is using innovative techniques to attract, retain and grow local businesses.

The Atlas was pleased to host DC Mayor Vincent Gray, Council Chair Kwame Brown and Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells at an event announcing the first recipients of the innovative H Street NE Retail Priority Grant. The purpose of the H Street NE Retail Priority Area Grant (H Street RPAG) is to support small business development, increase the tax base and create new jobs for District Residents along the H Street corridor.Mayor Gray recounted his life-long connection to and continued affection for the H Street area before award the four local entrepreneur with checks meant to help them grow their businesses along the corridor. Councilmember Wells applauded the efforts on behalf of local business by H Street Main Street Executive Director Anwar Saleem and CHAMPS Executive Director Julia Robey Christian who worked with his office to make the grant a reality. Councilember Well also shared that revitalization on H Street is happening at a pace not seen anywhere else in the country.

The awardees were Stan’s Inc, a men’s clothing store which has been operating at 822 H Street NE since 1978; Bikram Yoga Capitol Hill which has been offering yoga classes at 410 H Street NE since 2006; H Street Care and Wellness Center, a neighborhood pharmacy at 812 H Street NE and the C.A.T. Walk Boutique, a women’s clothing store at 1404 H Street NE.

The second phase of awards will be announced in the coming months. Hopefully at the Atlas!
